DON’T LET THE GOVERNMENT TEACH YOUR KIDS TO KILL!
With the “No child left behind act” and changes in legislation that now allow military recruiters access to Portland public schools, counter recruitment activities are more important then ever. Local residents need to come together and protect the rights of our young people. It is becoming more widely known that recruiters promote military service in a dishonest way. According to Fernando Suarez de Solar, the recent recipient or the War Resisters League Peace Award, recruiters make promises that are grossly exaggerated, such as the amount of financial compensation available when service is completed or the extremely limited college benefits. Because soldiers are typically recruited from minority communities across the nation where access to alternative information about the hazards of war is limited, it is the responsibility of the general public to provide education on military service and the possible long-term consequences. Now with the advent of the stop loss program, also referred to as the “backdoor draft” we must accelerate these efforts to ensure that high school students and college students are not easy prey for these ruthless recruiters.
Info-Mission will provide “how to” pamphlets that can be used as guidelines for families and friends of soldiers to help them get CO status while currently serving in Iraq Ultimately, it will be the lack of soldiers in the field that will create a military withdrawal.

There will be a black and white photo exhibit from Japanese photographer Naomi Toyoda showing how depleted uranium causes horrendous illness among children in Iraq, in addition to other multi media displays.
