i don't like care bears.
they scare me because they are bears that care.
a real bear would eat me, not love me.

it is disturbing to me when i think of images and perceptions stored in my mind. the HIS-tory in public school where the pilgrims "helped" the indians civilize. trading and leading by example to "help" and show them the "right" way to live. world war II, when the united states saved the jews and the rest of the world from the designs of cruel fascist domination. cartoons that are so fantastic that magical children (like me) pretend they live inside this false world. fantasies in which good and right always prevail over the design of the wicked i.e., g.i. joe always exposes cobra's world domination or weapons of mass destruction plot. the autobots always protect the energy that belongs to the humans from being taken to space by the decepticons.
i guess my point is that to help build revolutionary consciousness in the american people, we have to keep in mind these deep rooted cultural paradigms that run rampant through our society. disney movies do not contain realistic values for our children to identify with, but they are socializing to these psuedo-values. children's stories from before the last century exisited to warn and teach children about the dangers in the world. For example, the collection of works by the grimm brothers. the original cinderella or little mermaid had very different endings and morals. that's why they refer to the point of a fairy tale as the "moral of the story". the problem obviously is that if the moral of the story turns out to be that police always protect the populice, and the criminals always are brought to justice, then that is a bald faced lie. look at george bush, the man is a fraudulant president and a murderer, yet he will probably not go to jail, unless of course i am appointed attorney general [hint, hint, john keary:) ].
a mother in my family recently told me that her 6 year old was too young to hear the truth about the world, it's history, and the burden of working class life. she said, "let my child be a child until the time to become an adult is upon him/her." i suppose she meant allow this child to live in ignorant bliss until they are ready to comprehend the world and its politics. thinking about it now, this particular child already knows what war is and who the "bad" guys are and who the "good" guys are. these fairy tales are right there on the cover of time magazine, or on fox tv "news". how much psychological damage is going to be done before this child reaches adulthood? for now i will obey my family member's decision, but in the meantime, disney and other purveyors of a fascist world view, are having their way with the mind of this child, and many other children. "let kids be kids."
When i started learning about the horrible things americans have done, and other countries have done, in the pursuit of greed, i felt betrayed. i felt betrayed and manipulated by my family, my church, and my educational system. sometimes i feel like i am losing my mind when every stone uncovered reveals that a deeper more sinister intention is at hand.
we have to stop the lies. we have to face reality and deal with it. otherwise, we are passively allowing the destruction of everything we need to sustain life on earth. Not to mention the early deaths of our friends, family, potential for happiness, nature, clean air and water, animals, walking on the beach- all these things are hanging in the balance. all life as we know it is up for renewal. we can stay in our fantasy ego worlds and lose everything, or we can wake up and get our hands dirty by changing it.
i am choosing to stay awake. what is your choice going to be?
Posted by Tyler at August 21, 2004 01:36 PMYes, you are right...
we were brainwashed from the very beginning to embrace false cultural pretenses and in effect have been distracted from reality for a specific purpose: to not question authority.
Bears are cuddly
???
Police are necessary (they help people)
!!!
Government is crucial
$#%@!
we spend our time learning about the world through television and the Fox News ("Just One Fox") regime, by ingesting the McCommodified dead flesh of animals and are taught to care about which celebrity is fat, who they're fucking and what they do in their personal life (Inquiring minds want to know!).
what are we going to do when all the bears in the world are dead and extinct? Cue up "Jungle Book" on the DVD player and say, "Ah, weren't those species of animals just so cute?" "The Disney paradigm is the nicest paradigm?" In Brave New World, the Savage who was lucky enough to go to the civilized world (they were separated) ended up committing suicide because he couldn't deal with 'civilized society's' bewilderment with such and 'other'.
just give me my prozac and i'll be happy, ok?
just give me one more final hit!
i just need one more final hit!
put me in a box or put me down!
put me away!
put us all away!
(I wonder if Aldous Huxley ever ate McDonald's?..)
...but who cares?
(Jesus Does!)
There are many things wrong with society today, not one of them has anything to do with Care Bears or cartoons. It was up to your parents to teach you the difference between reality and fiction. I can now see that they have failed miserably. There are many values to be taught by Disney and Care Bears along with other shows and books receiving criticism. Your parents should have pointed out things like loyalty, friendship, telling the truth, and believing in yourself regardless of what others think.
Those are very good lessons and can be found in such books and cartoons as, Harry Potter, Scooby-doo, Shrek, and all the Disney movies. These movies are not there to baby sit your children; they are there as family movies. They are there so you can spend time with your children and let them know what you think of the movie and its message. This allows the child to be entertained and you to teach the child something. These shows are set up so that children will not be bored in the first 5 minutes. The Harry Potter series started more children reading again. Getting them out from in front of the TV and the dingy video games and back into books, it was a very good thing and the values of friendship in that series speaks loudly and clearly.
I never realized how lazy and paranoid parents had gotten until I took an Argumentive English class this semester. There was actually a girl that seriously argued the need for a ban of all, and I really mean all, writing utensils in schools. She said they could be used as a weapon and therefore put our children in danger. She said that all schools should have computers only and each child should do all assignments on that computer. Now, aside from the fact that parents really should be able to handle teaching their own child that stabbing someone with a writing utensil is not the right thing to do, there is the slight chance that a keyboard or mouse might just be used as a weapon also. The thought that our children should not learn to write because writing utensils might be used as a weapon is plain insanity. So is your theory.
"pocahantos" was great, very realistic. really, check it out a second time. little mermaid, hmm, prefer the origional story where the mermaind turns into sea foam at the end.
anyway, i wasn't suggesting banning anything. what i am suggesting is that our value system is totally wack and we need to spend less time in "disneyland" and more time in real life.
people need to hear the truth, before they can move forward.
thanks for checking out our site mary!
i love carebears
